Goals. Resolutions. Intentions. Whatever you want to call them, we’ve all got them. And after the year that I’ve had I wanted to really put some thought into what I want to achieve over the next 12 months.
I don’t have a vision board (yet). Or a 2, 5 or 10 year plan (yet).
But I do have 6 things that I’ve written in my journal that I want to share here as well, as a place to come back to, as a kind of accountability. I can have all the habit and goal trackers in the world but it’s easy to stop journaling. Who knows, it might be easy to just walk away from this at some point. But I really don’t want to. Whatever this turns into, if it’s just a blog and an instagram account with 9 followers, or it expands, and I do reels or youtube videos. None of that matters. This is for me.
And that my friends, is what we call a tangent.
My goals.
- No Spend
- Something I do when I’m feeling down, or up, or seeking any kind of rush (yes, I am hoping to get assessed for ADHD this year as well) is spend money on things I don’t need, that aren’t in the budget, and that put us in the poop. So if there’s something I want to buy, it cannot be on impulse, I need to think about it for at least a week.
- From our shared budget this means, no spending on online games, no makeup unless I need to replace something and absolutely 100% have nothing else that could do the same job, no stationery (notebooks, pens etc.)
- Books
- I need to get through my current physical TBR. I cannot buy anything new unless I read at least 5 books from the TBR. I need to create a TBR list on my spreadsheet so I can keep track of this. New releases, or new to me books can be added to the list but cannot be acquired (unless via gift) unless I have read at least 5 books from my TBR.
- Blog
- I am to post twice per week. On a Monday and a Thursday (Australian time, obviously).
- Instagram/TikTok
- I want to post to Instagram daily with 1 reel per week.
- I am unsure about TIkTok but if I start making Insta reels it kind of makes sense to cross post etc.
- Youtube
- Again, I’m very on the fence about this. But if I proceed I would like to post one video per week. But this one is massively to be decided. Massively.
- Personal budget
- This is separate from the household budget, no spend nonsense from above. I have 4 categories for this
- 10% is to go to savings
- 10% to debt
- $30 max on online games
- No more after pay, paypal pay in 4 etc.
- If I can abide by those, I can do whatever I want with the rest of it.

When I sit back and look at this, literally none of it seems to be exceedingly difficult. And yet, I feel a kind of heaviness, a kind of strain of expectation. I’m almost going into it expecting to fail because for whatever reason that’s the way my brain is wired.
But that’s not what we’re going for in 2023.
2023 is about taking care of us. Doing everything we can to be a tiny bit better every day. It’s a year of healing. And making a big deal of the small wins.
